The fleet continues to grow with the debut of Radical Departure III at Yachting Cup and the anticipated debut of Skien Dhu at Cal Race Week.

It was one of the nicest Yachting Cups in many years with warm weather and 10-14 knots of wind for sailing. SDYC (thanks to Jeff Johnson and his team) did a great job and the boats were well matched with many positions changing during races and some races being decided by only a few feet between the boats and all the boats being on pace at the first weather mark of the races.

Woolly Bully looked to be on pace to win their first Farr 40 regatta with excellent speed and boat handling and posted two firsts and a second to lead Piranha and White Knight after the first day’s racing which was held on the “West Ocean” course outside Point Loma. The practice time put in by the crew has really paid off! White Knight showed a return to form after a disappointing Ahmanson Cup challenging for the lead throughout and posting a second and two thirds.

Day 2 brought on a battle between Piranha and Woolly Bully for the regatta with only two points separating them. In the first race, Piranha nailed the committee end at full speed and immediately slammed WB the first time they tacked correctly choosing to protect the right side in the building breeze. By the time they came back, WB was in fourth place and the regatta looked to be in jeopardy. Some great tactical calls brought WB back to second place for the race and set up a showdown for all the marbles in the last race.

At the start, WB and Piranha were head to wind and barely moving with about fifteen seconds to go and Piranha shut out and the committee when they bailed out into a fast jibe starting a boatlength plus behind WB, but they meanwhile were being held up by another boat. A couple of tacks were traded between them by which time Temptress and White Knight held a solid lead crossing both boats. A couple of fortuitous shifts later, and Piranha popped through to lead at the first weather mark and never looked back stretching out a lead to win the regatta with two bullets on the last day.

This was just a preview of how much fun these boats are to sail and we look forward to welcoming more new owners in the next few months!
