Woolly Bully beat Piranha by a few boatlengths in the last race of the series, but it wasn’t quite enough to overtake Piranha which won the series in the Farr 40 fleet.

Piranha won the start and stretched into an early lead closely followed and then passed in the light air exiting the bay by White Knight. Both boats sailed all the way from the West to the East side of the channel but Piranha chose to gybe away a few critical boatlengths before White Knight that was left becalmed for quite awhile.

Kelp was again a huge factor. Following the nightmare of kelp from Race #1, Piranha dove hard upon seeing the lighthouse – but apparently not hard enough! In fact the kelp was so bad that Piranha had to stop the boat head to wind and back down twice on the race and Woolly Bully even put a diver over the side to cut it away!

Even after all that, the two boats traded the lead going back into the channel and the race really wasn’t won until Woolly Bully zigged once when Piranha zagged and they caught the winning puff in the drifter to the finish to win their first race in the fleet.
