Team Piranha found its mojo again in fairly lumpy conditions ranging from 5 to 12 knots off Point Loma. Interestingly now that the three race Ahmanson-Ensenada-Yachting Cup swing is done, six of the eight boats competing won a race and the closest of all the races was the fifth and final race this past weekend. Anybody out there has the capability to win if things go their way. For Piranha, practice on Friday at Leukemia Cup straightened out some issues with upwind sail trim and a series of solid starts on the favored end paid off (well, mostly). Racing was again tight with only a few points separating the top teams and with Skian Dhu vaulting from 5th to 3rd for the regatta on the strength of a last race bullet to go home happy. White Knight showed excellent speed and smarts as well leading the fleet around the first weather mark twice and winning one of those races. For Temptress, a second consecutive regatta as the bridesmaid became assured once Piranha posted a first race bullet on Sunday making it very difficult to put enough boats between the two, but they sailed another excellent regatta taking a bullet in race 3 and never sailing a race out of the top half of the fleet.

Next up: Cal Race Week where the fleet should grow again to nine on the starting line.
