The Farr 40 Midwinter Championship was sailed on Santa Monica Bay in spectacular conditions for February, mostly in SW breeze varying in direction and speed from around 8 – 15 knots. The nine competing boats had great racing and Jeff Janov and his DARK STAR team set the benchmark with a fine performance, but not without a good fight from several other boats. The event was attended by the international Class secretary Tink Chambers who conducted the crew weighing and boat inspections that ensure everyone is competing on an even basis. There was very tight racing typical of most Farr 40 events with busy mark roundings and battles right to the finish, several times with up to three or four boats finishing overlapped. The fleet welcomed two new owners to their first event, Gordon Leon with FOIL and Don and David Michaelis’ MAKO, both boats performing well for first outings. The west coast fleet now looks ahead to its next event, Yachting Cup in San Diego, May 5 – 6. For final results, please go to: http://www.calyachtclub.com/files/12_SCYAMidWinters_S1-5.htm
